DVD: A Town Called Panic (PG)

Reviewed by Warren Howard

If you've seen those Cravendale Milk ads where figurines hurtle around their kitchen, jumping in and out of a fridge, then you'll have a fair handle on this bonkers stop-motion animation.

Its heroes are a trio of plastic toys, Horse, Cowboy and Indian – the latter two visiting chaos on their rural community when they bring 50 million bricks crashing down on their home and kick-start an odd odyssey involving a journey to the centre of the Earth, underwater aliens and a giant mechanical penguin. It's a good job for nosebleed sufferers that it doesn't stretch beyond its 70 minutes, such is its ferocious pace – but it's still a charming triumph of the freewheeling imagination.
