DVD: Invictus (12)
There's no escaping the World Cup in South Africa, but for one of the most talked about movies of the year it's about the rugby World Cup 14 years ago.
Invictus tells the story of Nelson Mandela's attempt to unify his country after the end of apartheid, based on the book by former Independent journalist John Carlin, and directed by Clint Eastwood. The production values are sumptuous and the story rattles along, but unfortunately dips into the mawkish. Morgan Freemen is fine as Mandela, with a wandering accent, but the standout performance is from Matt Damon as rugby captain François Pienaar.
