Robot Wars' TV return 12 years on hailed by viewers

By Julia Hunt

Robot Wars made a triumphant return to television last night after 12 years.

The series - on the BBC until 2003 and on Channel 5 until 2004 - is now on BBC Two.

On social media, viewers welcomed its return, calling the first episode an "amazing" comeback.

The series, which fills the Sunday night slot vacated by Top Gear, follows the old format of teams of engineers doing battle against other robots and house robots in a special arena.

Forty teams will battle it out over six episodes to become Robot Wars champion 2016.

Dara O Briain and Angela Scanlon are the new presenters, taking over from Craig Charles and Philippa Forrester.
