They did their Best: four actors who have played the football genius - Ian McShane, John Lynch, Tom Payne and Aidan O'Neill
Lovejoy actor Ian McShane played an alcoholic ex-footballer in the 1979 film Yesterday's Hero. The story of the movie bore a striking resemblance to the life of George Best but was not officially biographical.
In the 2000 film entitled Best, Co Armagh actor John Lynch, who also starred in Sliding Doors, Some Mother's Son and TV series The Fall, played the Manchester United and Northern Ireland legend.
In 2009 Tom Payne played George Best in BBC2 TV drama Best - His Mother's Son. It focused on Best's family in Belfast, and in particular his mother Ann, who had her own demons to deal with.
Aidan O'Neill from Coalisland, Co Tyrone, took on the lead role in the popular Martin Lynch musical Dancing Shoes: The George Best Story. It makes a return to the Grand Opera House, Belfast, on August 19-29.
