Watch: Liam Neeson says gender pay gap 'disgraceful' but taking a pay cut 'too far'

Northern Ireland movie star Liam Neeson has said that while Hollywood's gender pay gap is "disgraceful" it would be "too far" to suggest he take a pay cut.

The Ballymena man was talking to the press to promote his new film, The Commuter.

He said there had been a lot of "healthy discussion" on the gender pay gap in Tinsel Town but the disparity in pay between male and female actors was "disgraceful".

Asked how the issue could be addressed he said it had already been started by great women, "and we as men have to be part of the solution. we started it so we have to be part of the solution.

Asked if he would take a pay cut, he responded: "No - pay cut! No, no, no, no, no that's going too far.

"There has to be parity, there just has to be."

In another interview he said it was "very tough" for women in Hollywood find work on film.

He said he had lots of friends who were brilliant actresses and had not worked as much as they should have on film.

The 65-year-old also said when the time came that it wasn't believeable that he could out run a train, then he would get out of the action movie genre.
