Red Hot Chili Peppers to headline Belfast MTV awards
Grammy award-winning rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline MTV's Europe Music Awards in Belfast's Odyssey arena next month.
The music station also announced that the awards will be presented from two other locations in the city simultaneously.
A spokesman for Red Hot Chili Peppers said: “We haven’t played in Belfast in a long time, so we’re really looking forward to performing at the ‘2011 MTV EMA’ and seeing all our fans!”
“This is our coming-of-age year and it’s going to be huge,” David Lynn, head of MTV, told the Belfast Telegraph. “The show broadcasts to a viewing audience of 1.2 billion across 640 million homes in 159 million territories. Expect the unexpected. It’s going to be great.”
Pop princess Selena Gomez has been lined up to host the multi-million pound glittering event.
Lady Gaga, who was unable to make the EMAs in Madrid last year, is expected to appear while British artists Adele and Jessie J are also nominated for a number of awards..
“It will be a star-studded experience and a spectacular a show as we’ve ever put on,” promised Mr Lynn.
