Classical: A weekend of virtuoso music in Northern Ireland

You can enjoy a lavish arts festival this weekend at the architecturally inviting Portico in Portaferry Right at the end of the Ards Peninsula. Festiv’Ards celebrates the best in classical music and has first-class artists of international repute.

Tonight, the concerts begin with the superb Irish pianist Michael McHale, who also accompanies the young Irish violinist Patrick Rafter tomorrow at 2.30pm.

The Ulster Orchestra presents a lunchtime concert in the Ulster Hall next Tuesday, with conductor Rafael Payare directing a programme of Haydn’s Symphony No 6, Le Matin, and Wagner’s Prelude & Liebestod: Tristan und Isolde.
