1D get US Madame Tussauds figures

One Direction have been immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds in the US.

The boy band already have their own waxworks at Madame Tussauds London, but due to popular demand have now been cloned across the pond, too.

In the US display, the life-size figures of the boys sit on chairs smiling at their audience, who screamed in delight when they were revealed, and Madame Tussauds Hollywood's Colin Thomas said he was expecting them to prove a hit with visitors.

He said at the unveiling: "Today is a big day for us not just here at Madame Tussauds Hollywood, but also at Madame Tussauds New York, where we're launching One Direction due to popular demand.

"We've been inundated with requests for One Direction, they are the most requested figures by our visitors. We ask them, 'Who do you want to see?' and One Direction are constantly at the top of the list."

Colin added of the investment the museum had made: "It's a tough decision for us because each figure is 300,000 dollars (£191,615), so to make these guys cost 1.5 million dollars (£958,077).

"It takes six months of labour, love, time and attention for each figure by our studios team back in London to make sure they are exactly right.

"I think they've done an amazing job - they're incredibly life-like and if today's anything to go by, I think we're going to be in for a busy Christmas season."
