Behind every great song there’s a great writer and this annual festival celebrates the art of songwriting with an event that draws music industry professionals from around the globe. Once again, there is a fantastic line-up with great solo and ‘In The Round’ concerts plus the annual music industry conference, the Song Writing Convention.
Among the stars taking to the stage for the festival will be former Catatonia frontwoman Cerys Matthews, as well as Eighties legend Nik Kershaw and the political musings of Billy Bragg.
Several successful artists from Belfast’s sister city, Nashville, will be taking part in this event, including John Brannen (who has written for Reba McEntire, Richie Havens and The Eagles) and James House (who has written for Martina McBride, Dwight Yoakam, Rod Stewart and Kylie Minogue).
Bands playing original music feature once again, with Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club, Pugwash, Aslan, Louisiana Joyride, Bellwether State and Southern all confirmed to play. Several local writers are coming home for the event including LA-based Thin Lizzy frontman Ricky Warwick and globetrotting Lisburn artist Aaron Shanley.
Meanwhile, since being discovered by the Nashville-based Moraine Music Group at last year’s festival, local boy Gareth Dunlop's career has taken off. Several of his songs were featured in the hit television series Cougar Town and One Tree Hill, and he also recently finished an acoustic tour in the US.
Other big hitters on the bill include Grammy award-winning performer Nanci Griffith, while local success Brian Kennedy is, surprisingly, making his debut at the event. He is joined by local rising stars Joe Echo, Foy Vance, Shauna Tohill, Gerry Creen, Wes Grierson and the aforementioned Gareth Dunlop.
