Comets' Franny Beecher dies at 92
Franny Beecher, lead guitarist with Bill Haley And The Comets, has died aged 92.
His daughter, Pauline Grinstead, said her father died in his sleep on February 24 in a nursing home near Philadelphia.
Bill Haley And The Comets helped kick off the rock and roll era with their hit Rock Around the Clock in 1955 and their popular songs also included See You Later Alligator.
Philadelphia's Danny Cedrone played on the original recording of Rock Around The Clock, but Franny played on the song's national television debut and in films, remaining with the Comets until 1962.
Franny also played with jazz musicians Buddy Greco and Benny Goodman before the Comets.
In the 1980s, Franny and the other Comets reunited and played tour dates around the US and across the world.
He was born Francis Beecher in Norristown near Philadelphia.
