Fans miss out as Union J cancel Derry gigs

By Donna Deeney

Hundreds of teenage fans have been left disappointed after X Factor stars Union J were forced to cancel two gigs in the north west.

Band member George Shelley is in hospital recovering from a “nasty accident” according to the management team, which means that fans in Londonderry and Letterkenny miss out.

While the extent of his injuries is still unclear, the singer himself took to social media outlet Twitter to express his disappointment.

He said: “So sorry to everyone in Ireland. I have had an accident so we won’t be able to perform tomorrow. Sorry.”

“I’m fine. Just had an accident and won’t be able to perform.”

The band were due on stage at St Columb's Hall in Derry for a matinee gig before crossing the border into Donegal for a night performance at the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny yesterday.

There are no immediate plans to reschedule either appearance.
