Superstar DJ Fatboy Slim played a secret show in his home city - to a group of babies, toddlers and their parents.

The star, real name Norman Cook, played a two-hour set at a parents and children's beach party called Baby Loves Disco in Brighton, East Sussex.

It was held on Sunday afternoon as part of the Brighton Fringe, a month-long arts festival featuring more than 750 events spread across different venues.

Cook, who is married to broadcaster Zoe Ball, took their daughter with him - and afterwards he said it was "great fun" for both of them.

Baby Loves Disco events, which are organised in more than 20 cities worldwide, sees children aged under five joined by their parents on dancefloors while DJs spin mixes and children's favourites.

Cook, 52, agreed to appear at the show in his home city to return a favour done to him by organiser Lesley Woodall two decades ago.

She said: "About 20 years ago when I was promoting bands I got Norman into a gig and afterwards he sent me a lovely fax to say thank you.

"I kept it and a couple of decades later used that same fax to try and persuade him to return the favour, not thinking for a second that he'd actually do it.

"But he's a dad and a proud Brighton resident and just the loveliest person, and he totally got what we're all about."

The event was part of a programme of comedy, cabaret and children's shows held at Republic, a new, temporary Spiegeltent venue on Brighton beach.

Cook, famed for hits including Right Here, Right Now and Praise You, said: "Lesley had written proof of a favour I owed her from 20 years ago so she had me over a barrel.

"This was an ideal way to repay it. I can safely say this the first time I've done a gig for babies and their parents. It was great fun for both me and my daughter though, and the crowd were so up for it."
