Filan: I'm in a better place now

Shane Filan has revealed he is in a happier place after being declared bankrupt.

The former Westlife singer was declared bankrupt in 2012 after suffering losses in Ireland's property crash when a property development company he founded with his brother was placed in receivership.

"It's gone now, I'm in a positive place," he said.

The 34-year-old, who has three children with wife Gillian, admitted that the experience has pushed him to work harder. His debut solo single, Everything To Me, will be released on August 25, followed by an album around November.

"You go through these things and you learn from it, and now I've got a very different perspective on life in general," he continued.

"I want to go to work every day and look after my wife and kids and that's my motto going forward. Whatever is meant to be is meant to be, and if I hadn't gone through all that, then I wouldn't have these songs - and I'd rather have these songs than the money."
