Jessica drums up support for My Camp Rock final

By Lisa Smyth

A Belfast teenager has been named as one of four finalists of a UK-wide talent contest being run by the Disney Channel.

Jessica Hammond has beaten off fierce competition from thousands of other entrants to make it through to the final stages of My Camp Rock — a brand new television talent contest inspired by the smash-hit original movie Camp Rock.

The talented 15-year-old has secured her place in the final and will go head-to-head in a final jam on the channel on April 24, with viewers voting for their favourite act to decide the ultimate winner.

Since My Camp Rock launched on Disney Channel at the beginning of the month, viewers have been gripped by the journeys of eight budding music stars aged between 11 and 16 who won the chance to attend an intensive four-day “Camp Rock” style singing and dancing workshop.

Alongside seven other chosen acts the Belfast youngster had star treatment with dance training from choreographer Gary Lloyd and vocal coaching from Zoe Tyler of BBC’s Any Dream Will Do fame.

Gary Lloyd, Zoe Tyler and R&B star Craig David sat on the judging panel responsible for whittling the finalists down from eight to four, along with the head of Walt Disney Records in Europe, who will release the winning track.

Now Jessica and the final acts will get to perform on Disney Channel in a special Final Jam with the winner going on to release their own version of a Camp Rock track, which will broadcast to millions on the channel.

Viewers in Belfast can register their vote for Jessica at

And the results will be revealed next Saturday at 10.30am.

My Camp Rock finalist Jessica said: “I’ve had the best time on My Camp Rock and am so excited to be in the final.

“I love to sing and perform and Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers have been my idols since the film came out last year.

“This is a dream come true and I can’t wait to perform with all of the other talented kids at the My Camp Rock final jam.”
