Katy and Gaga lead EMA nominations

Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have put British stars in the shade as they go head-to-head at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The US singers have grabbed five nominations each for the annual awards bash.

Lady Gaga, who recently dominated the MTV Video Music Awards in a meat dress, is up for Best Pop, Female, Live Act, Song (Bad Romance) and Video (Telephone).

Katy rivals Gaga in the Pop, Female, Song and Video (California Gurls) categories and is also up for World Stage Performance.

It will be an all-female affair with Rihanna also getting a nod in the Pop, Female and Song (Rude Boy) categories. Eminem featuring Rihanna's Love The Way You Lie is also up for best Video.

British names in the shortlist include Muse, who are in the running for Rock, Live Act and World Stage Performance.

Ozzy Osbourne is up for Best Rock, British rapper Plan B has a nod for New Act and Video (with Prayin'), Alexandra Burke and Professor Green are both up for Push Act, while Gorillaz are in the running in the World Stage Performance and Alternative categories.

The awards take place in Madrid on November.
