Keys to pen new Broadway music

Alicia Keys is set to compose original music for an upcoming Broadway production.

Producers said the musician and singer, whose hits include Fallin' and A Woman's Worth, will offer her songwriting skills to the play Stick Fly, by Lydia R Diamond.

The star has already signed on to help produce the work, billed as a contemporary comedy of manners revolving around an affluent black family whose insecurities gradually unravel during a vacation.

The cast includes Psych and The West Wing's Dule Hill and Tony Award-winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson.

Alicia is not the first US music star to co-produce a Broadway show. Previously, Jay-Z, Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith helped produce Fela! which proved a hit with audiences.

Performances of Stick Fly begin on November 18 at the Cort Theatre.
