Music deal encourages cross-border harmony

A new award scheme has been launched to help support cross-border musical co-operation.

The Beyond Borders scheme will help composers, artists and arts organisations in Northern Ireland to share resources and work together with people in other regions to commission new work.

A total of £110,000 has been awarded to nine projects, seven of which feature input from local talent.

The 2011 programme will involve 21 commissioning partners and 13 music creators.

Every commission is guaranteed a performance in at least two venues giving those taking part valuable exposure.

Belfast techno legend Phil Keiran, who will be creating new music with Welsh psych-rockers White Noise Sound, said he is looking forward to collaborating with new acts.

He said: “After hearing White Noise Sound, I am confident we will find endless amounts of common ground.”
