One Direction cancel On The Road Again Belfast gig 'after Liam Payne takes ill'
Thousands of rain-soaked fans left disappointed as they are told the gig is off
One Direction cancelled their concert at Belfast's SSE Arena on Tuesday night, after reports Liam Payne has taken ill.
Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan were due to entertain their army of dedicated fans who had camped out braving the cold to get their hands on the coveted On The Road Again tour tickets.
Fans were told the news moments before the band were due to take to the stage.
In a statement on their website, Aiken Promotions said: "The show tonight has been cancelled as Liam has taken ill, and whilst not serious , he is unable to perform tonight.
"Please hold on to your tickets. A further statement will be made in the morning. The band apologise to the fans and wish Liam better."
Loyal fans had been queuing for hours on rainy night Belfast night to get the best spot to see their idols.
A bystander described children being in 'floods of tears' after hearing the news.
Fans have expressed their outrage and disappointment on social media.
"Yikes lots of sad fans heading home tonight," one tweeted.
Another tweeted: "absolute disgrace in Belfast tonight! Such a sin on them poor kids waiting to see you. Don't be surprised if you loose fans!!![sic]".
The band's official Twitter account tweeted: "Belfast! Are you ready? #OnTheRoadAgain2015" only hours before the show was to begin.
The hashtag '#GetWellSoonLiam' began trending on Twitter just minutes after the cancellation.
Some 30,000 fans in Northern Ireland have splashed out more than £1.6m on tickets for the band's three sell-out shows.
