Paparazzi stood up as Lady Gaga avoids Belfast shops

By Victoria O'Hara

Lady Gaga sings about the paparazzi and she certainly had photographers dancing to her tune when rumours circulated that the eccentric star was to visit Belfast’s Victoria Square.

The triple Brit Award winner had flown into Northern Ireland to perform at the Odyssey last night.

But hours before the 23-year-old was due to bring her Monster Ball Tour show to thousands of fans speculation mounted she was set to drop into the shopping centre.

It is understood she had been booked in to have her nails manicured in House of Fraser in preparation for her big show — but failed to show up.

The sensational pop star had visited the store in February last year to have a manicure before performing.

She had been in the city on that occasion as the support act for the Pussycat Dolls for their Doll Domination Tour.

But now, after pop hits such as Bad Romance and Poker Face, Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, is headlining her own tour.

As speculation mounted yesterday that Lady Gaga would appear amongst everyday shoppers, fans along with Press gathered to try and catch a glimpse of the singer who is known for her kooky outfits.

But after waiting patiently for around six hours the hope of either snapping a picture or grabbing a sight of the famous New Yorker faded.

There was no sign of the woman Jonathan Ross once called ‘Poker Face’ or her entourage.

A spokeswoman for Victoria Square said: “We had hoped she was going to come down and she will be more than welcome again.”
