Pete Doherty's Libertines 'effort'

Pete Doherty has been "making a valid effort" to ensure the Libertines' reunion goes to plan, according to drummer Gary Powell.

Gary reckons Pete and Carl Barat have put their past differences aside, and the band's preparations for their comeback at Leeds and Reading festivals have been "refreshing".

"It's like the last six years haven't happened," Gary told The Sun.

"There will be a few surprises but I reckon people will be more surprised to see all four of us back on stage.

"It's really refreshing to see Pete and Carl actually talking to each other. Pete is doing his damnednest - he's making a valid effort at sorting himself out."

The band haven't appeared together since 2004, when Pete was kicked out of the group amid his drug problems.

Before their official comeback at Leeds and Reading over the August bank holiday, the band are playing a special warm-up gig at London venue The Forum on August 25.
