Q&A: Belfast band The Emerald Armada talk Lough Lively Sessions
A series of traditional and folk music gigs are taking place in Portaferry, Co Down this year, and Belfast band The Emerald Armada are set to headline the latest show.
The Lough Lively Sessions run until October and will feature separate music events headlined by Northern Ireland musicians at Portico in the town.
The event will continue on Friday, August 11 with The Emerald Armada, ahead of their supporting gig at Custom House Square in Belfast.
Q&A: The Emerald Armada
Describe your music in three words?
Folky, Funky and Fun
Who are your musical influences?
Everything from Pearl Jam to The Waterboys
What have been your musical highlights so far?
Touring India was pretty special, or selling out Mandela Hall in Belfast and having everyone singing our songs.
Who are your favourite Northern Ireland bands/musicians?
Oh, tough question, the local scene is buzzing right now. But it would have to be Joshua Burnside, Brash Isaac and a great young band from Derry called Touts.
What's you favourite thing about Northern Ireland?
The rolling hills of County Down. It where we live, I love to just get out and drive around our special corner of the world.
Where is the best place to listen to some music in Northern Ireland?
Belfast is where it's at really. Smaller venues like Voodoo, McHughs, Sunflower Bar are all putting on great local music. The Limelight for the big guns though.
What can audiences expect from your Lough Lively Session?
A mix between our upbeat crowd pleasers, and a few slower numbers given the intimate nature of the venue.
What is the best gig you have ever been to?
Two are neck in neck. Tallest Man On Earth in Dublin and a disbanded local band called the Assailants, no idea what was in the water that night, but it was a memorable one!
