Radio 1 set for Glasgow Big Weekend
Paolo Nutini and Rita Ora are to star at BBC Radio 1's annual Big Weekend event as station bosses announced it will be staged in Glasgow this year.
More than 60,000 fans will be able to attend the event in which the station will effectively decamp to the city.
The location was announced this morning (January 30) during Nick Grimshaw's breakfast show, which was broadcast from Glasgow.
The festival will be staged over the weekend of May 24-25 at Glasgow Green, with ticket details to be announced in March. There will also be an additional dance event in the city on May 23.
Further names will be announced over the coming weeks.
The BBC said the Big Weekend - now in its 11th year - was visiting the city to celebrate its position as host city for the Commonwealth Games.
Radio 1 DJ Nick said: "There is a rule that the further north you go, the more fun the gig will be, so I'm psyched to be in Scotland this year."
Rita appeared before an audience at the launch event at BBC Scotland's studio at Pacific Quay.
The singer answered questions and responded to one fan by kissing him on the cheek.
Sean Bommer, 17, said: "I think a bunch of my friends are pretty jealous."
The teenager, who helps run his school radio station, St Mungo's FM, said: "I asked her if she had any exclusive songs that we could play on our school radio.
"Then I was asked if I wanted to go up on stage for a picture."
