Richards: The perils of party DJs

Claire Richards has revealed parties can be a pain - because people are always sticking on Steps tunes.

But the One For Sorrow singer, who is reuniting with the group on the tenth anniversary of their split, said she was still proud of the pop songs they'd created.

"At family weddings they tend to tell the DJ not to play Steps for fear of upsetting me!" she said.

"It's normally at parties where there's people you don't really know that well, they put [a Steps track] on and think it's hilarious. They don't always necessarily want you to get up and do the dance, it's just to see you squirm and see how you react I think.

"I don't mind at all actually, it was huge for us and I think it's something for us to be proud of rather than embarrassed about.

"But that being said, it doesn't mean I want to get up and do it in front of a room full of people by myself! It's usually Tragedy followed by 5, 6, 7, 8."

The reunion is being documented by Sky Living and the group are also releasing a new Ultimate Collection record - and Claire is hoping the tensions that caused the split won't resurface this time around.

"I think part of the reason why things fell apart was because we didn't talk about it. We didn't talk to each other about the problems we had so I don't think any of us will let that happen this time, we all want to make it work as much as possible.

"So I think if there's a problem that arises we'll discuss it as adults rather than shy away from it as I certainly did before."

:: The Steps Ultimate Collection is available on CD and CD/DVD on October 10.
