Sam Smith charts new ground with album In The Lonely Hour
Sam Smith has topped off another award-winning week by becoming the first act to top the albums chart with sales that include streams.
Smith (22), who won two Brits last week to add to his four Grammy awards, beat rivals including Ed Sheeran and Royal Blood in a close-run race to No.1.
This is the first week in which the chart reflects audio streaming of albums from services such as Spotify, Deezer, Google Play and Napster.
Smith's debut album In The Lonely Hour finished with a combined chart sales figure of 41,000, ahead of Ed Sheeran's X on 38,000.
Ellie Goulding's Love Me Like You Do is spending its fourth week at the top of the singles chart.
