Simon Cowell to receive Music Industry Trusts Award

Simon Cowell will be honoured with the Music Industry Trusts Award at a ceremony in London.

The music mogul is set to receive the 24th edition of the MITS Award, which is presented annually to a public figure.

He will be recognised for his contribution to the music and entertainment industry as well as to charitable causes.

The award will be presented at a gala ceremony tonight at the Grosvenor House Hotel following the red carpet arrivals, with a number of celebrities expected to attend.

Previous music industry figures to be recognised include Sir Elton John, Lord (Andrew) Lloyd-Webber, Sir Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Jools Holland, Gary Barlow, Annie Lennox and Michael Eavis.

Cowell, 56, is a judge on The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent.

His television production and music publishing house Syco, a joint venture with Sony Music, has signed artists including One Direction, Little Mix, Susan Boyle, Ella Henderson, Il Divo, Labrinth, Fifth Harmony and Collabro.

David Munns, chairman of the MITS Award committee, said: "We are delighted to honour Simon Cowell with the Music Industry Trusts Award for 2015.

"We are proud to recognise his outstanding contributions to the UK music and entertainment industries and his personal support of many charitable causes.

"The creativity and excitement of The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, for example, have left an indelible impression on our contemporary culture, whilst his record label Syco has proven itself a world leader in the development and success of inspiring, talented artists. Simon Cowell is a well deserving honouree."

The event will take place in aid of music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins and the BRIT Trust.
