The Wanted have revealed their bandmate Nathan Sykes is "going to be OK" after he underwent throat surgery.

Siva Kaneswaran previously admitted that he feared the 20-year-old may not sing again after having the operation, but Max George insisted Nathan is doing well.

"Chances are, he's going to be OK. The signs so far have been really good," he told E! News.

Jay McGuiness said that the singer is getting treated by the "best" doctors and specialists, adding: "He's definitely in better spirits than when he first came around."

Nathan admitted he was "nervous" as he had a check-up yesterday, tweeting: "First time I see my vocal cords since the op. Nervous though."

While Nathan recovers from his operation for a haemorrhaged vocal cord at home, the rest of the band - made up of Siva, Max, Jay and Tom Parker - plan to continue without him for the time being as they promote their new single Walks Like Rihanna and reality show The Wanted Life.

Tom joked: "For the first time in three years in our careers, we're actually on time to every interview, which is slightly strange."

Nathan is expected to miss the band's Australian tour as he rests from his operation.

His publicist said in a statement after the operation: "Nathan had surgery as planned last week and is now starting on the road towards recovery. We won't know how successful the procedure was until he heals over the coming months."
