La Nina whips up a storming gig

It's a long way from Siberia to the UK City of Culture, but it was a journey Russian-born DJ Nina Kraviz was happy to make.

This is the 13th year of the dance music programme and the over-arching theme of The City As A Dancefloor certainly proved apt with Sandino's Bar packed all night with pumping partygoers and banging electro beats.

Acclaimed Belfast DJ Phil Kieran's new band Le Carousel took to the main stage to warm up the ever increasing crowd. His evocative set had a psychedelic vibe.

Belfast duo Bicep changed the sound and mood with their exclusive brand of happy house, delighting hardcore fans and newbies alike with tracks such as Vision of Love, Stripper and You.

But it was stunning Kraviz's sultry and sexy set that was the big hit of the night, featuring tracks from her Moscow Underground session and her most recently released CD. Her trademark unique blend of raw House, Techno and Acid kept her colossal following of diehard fans entranced.

It might not be to all tastes but Kraviz's infectious energy kept the crowd on the dance floor.
