Roots/Folk Music 22/1/10

Ahead of next month’s 6th Guinness Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival, the organisers are staging a pre-festival launch next Friday.

This impressive ‘taster’ night at the city’s Madison Hotel on January 29 features top country hit writer and pianist Phil Vassar, making his local debut.

As one of Nashville’s most prolific and versatile stars, Vasser has written six chart-toppers for country artists like Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, and Collin Raye, and three more as an artist in his own right.

Meanwhile, the Out To Lunch Festival continues with some great gigs at the Black Box, including Brigid O’Neill, (1pm today), Sam Baker (2pm Sunday) and Americana band, The Low Anthem (8pm Wednesday). Monthly live music is on offer at McHugh’s new Outlaw Club next Friday with The Dirty Roots, Farriers and Junior Johnson.
