Former X Factor contestant Janet Devlin has revealed she won't be representing Ireland at this year's Eurovision Song Content in Israel.

After media speculation that the singer from Gortin, Co Tyrone was set to take part in this year's competition, Devlin posted on her official YouTube channel to quash the rumours.

The 24-year-old singer said that she would be representing Ireland from the comfort "of her own living room".

She said the speculation started as an online rumour and gained traction on social media, leading to a number of media outlets getting in contact with her.

"I will be watching this year, as per every year. I love watching it," she said.

"Sorry for letting anyone down, it was really nice to see so many supportive comments for something I'm not doing though. Maybe some day."

Ireland is the most successful country in the contest, with a record total of seven wins, and is the only country to have won three times consecutively.

The 2018 competition, held in Lisbon, was won by Israel entry Netta with her song Toy.

Sinn Fein previously called for the Irish government to boycott the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, controversially being held in Israel.
