Actor Daniel Mays on duty for new series of cop show

By Robert Dex

Mrs Biggs star Daniel Mays is set to play a renegade policeman in a new series of Line Of Duty when it starts filming in Belfast later this month.

He joins the third series of the award-winning BBC Two drama, written by Jed Mercurio, as the leader of an armed response team whose erratic behaviour makes him a danger to everyone around him.

Mays, who played bank robber Ronnie Biggs alongside Sheridan Smith as his wife in Mrs Biggs, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the unbelievably talented cast of Line Of Duty series three. Jed Mercurio has once again delivered a thrilling and emotionally raw script which I feel incredibly honoured to be a part of."

He joins returning cast members Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar in the show about an anti-corruption unit working within the force.

The first series of Line of Duty was filmed on location in Birmingham but the second took up residence in Northern Ireland.
