Andrea brings X-tra beat to grab spot at judge's house

Northern Irish X Factor hopeful Andrea Magee is one step closer to a guaranteed slot on the live televised finals of the hit talent show.

Viewers saw the 28-year-old Glengormley woman make it through the bootcamp stage of the audition process last night.

The Kent-based singer has had a relatively smooth transition through all stages of the competition so far. She previously wowed judges with an acoustic rendition of her own composition Any Minute Now.

And last night she impressed Sharon Osbourne – the mentor for the 'Over 25s' singers – with a bodhran accompanied version of classic Ike and Tina Turner soul track River Deep, Mountain High to secure a place at the judges' houses.

Following Andrea's heartfelt performance at Wembley Arena, Sharon admitted it wouldn't be easy to choose her singers.

"It's tough for me today," she said.

But with an audience of 4,000 cheering Andrea on, Sharon eventually told her the good news: "I'd like you to be in my six."

This weekend's boot camp phase has been met with criticism for directly pitting contestants against each other.

Some contestants selected by judges for the final six in each category – groups, boys, girls and over-25s – were then deselected in favour of others, in a new twist to the process that has angered many fans of the show.

Andrea now has just one final obstacle in the way of landing a place in Sharon's final line-up.

If her singing in the next stage of the competition is a hit, she will perform live in the X Factor studio for millions of viewers as part of the final 12.

Andrea has built up a supportive online following, with many fans complaining that they did not get to see enough of her on last night's programme.

One fan said: "Didn't get to see enough of Andrea Magee!"

Another described her as a "phenomenal performer".

Andrea then told her Twitter followers she was sorry the time allocated to her performance was so brief.

"Folks, sorry 4short snippet @TheXFactor bootcamp. I worked very hard on the musical arrangement of that song... would have loved 4 u 2see more x".

Last week, Andrea, a former music teacher, performed a series of gigs during a visit home to Northern Ireland, including an intimate concert at Belfast Metropolitan College.

Andrea Magee (28) is originally from Glengormley, but is now living in Maidstone. Music graduate Andrea was head of music at a secondary school but gave it up to concentrate on gigging and helping autistic children in her spare time.
