Anne Robinson and the Chuckle Brothers set for Blankety Blank Christmas special

Anne Robinson, Joe Lycett and the Chuckle Brothers are among the celebrity panellists who will feature in a Christmas return of game show Blankety Blank.

Comedian and writer David Walliams will host the one-off programme, which will be broadcast on ITV on Christmas Eve.

The full line-up of panellists also includes X Factor judge Louis Walsh, Birds Of A Feather star Lesley Joseph and Coronation Street actor Brooke Vincent.

Walsh said: "I am really excited to be taking part in Blankety Blank after 14 years off air.

"The worst-case scenario is that contestants leave with just a Blankety Blank cheque book and pen and, let's be honest, who wouldn't want one of those."

Previously hosted by the likes of Sir Terry Wogan, Les Dawson and Lily Savage, the popular show ran on BBC One for 11 years between 1979 and 1990, and was later revived between 1997 and 1999.

It was then broadcast by ITV for more than year between 2001 to 2002.

Robinson, who has appeared on the show before, said: "I'm thrilled to be doing the show again and am indebted to the Chuckle Brothers for explaining how it works. I never got the hang of it last time."

The game sees pairs of contestants go head-to-head to fill in blank statements by matching the answers of the celebrity panellists, with the winner going through to the Supermatch game.

Famous regulars on the old programme included Kenny Everett, Lorraine Chase and Cheryl Baker.

It has been reported that a new series of the show may be commissioned for next year if the Christmas special, which will air at 6.30pm, is successful.
