Alexander Armstrong is to have a new crowning achievement in his career - playing a king in a children's TV show.
The Pointless host - who recently discovered his own roots can be traced back to royalty - is joining the cast of CBeebies show Mike The Knight.
The funnyman will be heard voicing The King during a seasonal double-length special, Mike The Knight And The Christmas Castle, to be screened over the festive period.
He will also play the part in a feature length special of the hit animated show, called Journey To Dragon Mountain, to be released next year.
Alexander, who found while filming Who Do You Think You Are? that his ancestors can be traced back to William the Conqueror, said: " To play the King in Mike The Knight is a real honour and it's given me some kudos with my sons."
Young viewers have followed Mike's progress as he tries to follow in his father's footsteps to become a brave and noble knight. The King prompts Mike's festive adventure by insisting he should play a board game and when his sister Evie's magic spell goes wrong, the wannabe knight finds himself part of the game.
Michael Carrington, head of production at animator Hit Entertainment, said: "Alexander is the perfect person to play the King, he has a fantastically regal air and brings the right balance of warmth, humour and authority to the role."
