A spelling gaffe in the poster for Snow Patrol's Ward Park gig next year has seen the hometown of singer Gary Lightbody mislabeled as 'Banger' instead of Bangor.

The error appeared in a television ad for the shows, which will take place in May of next year.

Posting an image of the ad on Snow Patrol's official Twitter page, Gary Lightbody said the band wasn't sent the advert to approve, and that he has known how to spell the name of his hometown since he was a child.

"Well we weren’t sent this advert to approve as I’ve known how to spell the name of my hometown since I was about 4," he writes.

"Apologies to the people of my hometown BANGOR for the mistake. Getting it fixed as quickly as possible. Do join us at Ward Park though, it’s gonna be a BANGER! gL.x"

The band is set to champion a host of local talent at the festival next year, following on from two major gigs at the site in 2007 and 2010.

Also appearing will be Foy Vance and Ash, with a second stage there to champion up-and-coming local talent.
