Batman v Superman film rakes in £14.6m at UK box office
Superhero blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice took £14.6m at UK box offices on its first weekend - the biggest opening for any film in British cinemas so far this year.
It still has some way to go before catching rival superhero movie Deadpool, however, which has now made £37.3m.
The clash of the capes between Henry Cavill's Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman has received mixed - and some very poor -reviews from critics, but ticket sales suggest it has been a hit with audiences.
If box office takings remain this strong, Batman v Superman looks likely to become one of the top 10 biggest superhero films in UK cinema history.
It would need to make more than £30.6m to overtake the movie currently in 10th place, 2013's Man Of Steel.
Deadpool is already in the top 10 at number eight.
The most successful superhero film in UK cinema history is 2012's The Dark Knight Rises, which starred Christian Bale as Batman. The film has to date made approximately £58.7m.
