The Grammy-winning singer - who gave birth to daughter Blue Ivy in January - wowed in a Givenchy Haute Couture jewelled floor-length creation with purple feathered train at the star-studded event, celebrating the museum's new exhibit, Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli: Impossible Conversations.
Other stars on the red carpet included Rihanna in a slinky black number by Tom Ford, Jessica Alba in a gold Michael Kors gown, Scarlett Johansson in a strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress with tulle mermaid skirt and sparkly bodice, Sarah Jessica Parker in a floral dress by Valentino and Emma Stone in a Lanvin red dress, embroidered with crystal flowers.
Twilight actress Kristen Stewart went for a modern look in colour-blocking Balenciaga while Gwyneth Paltrow braved it out in a backless silver Prada minidress, and Christina Ricci chose a Thakoon gown with huge bow.
