A small Co Down community will be watching with bated breath tonight as a primary school choir battles for a place in the final of Britain's Got Talent.

On Saturday night St Patrick's Junior Choir from Drumgreenagh outside Rathfriland made it through to the live semi-finals of the hit ITV talent show.

The pupils are among 35 lucky acts joining the five golden buzzer acts who automatically qualified for the semi-finals this year, along with Omagh man Ryan Tracey (35), who smashed a world balloon modelling record while blindfolded.

The winner will go on to perform at the Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen.

There has been an exodus from the small community to London to see the choir's Monday night performance.

St Patrick's Primary School principal Sorcha Lyness told Sunday Life: "We are absolutely thrilled that our choir have made it through to the live shows of Britain's Got Talent.

"We already knew that we had a talented bunch here at St Patrick's, but it is so nice to have them recognised in this way. The children throughout the school are so excited to be both performing on the night and, for some, to watch their best friends on the television on Monday night.

"The choir have worked really hard in the run-up to the live shows so I really hope everyone can get behind us and vote for St Patrick's Junior Choir."

Yesterday they were given the star treatment ahead of rehearsals at the famous Elstree Studios before the show.

The pupils will make their bid for a final spot on Britain's Got Talent tonight, with the programme starting at 7.30pm.

The public are able to vote during the live show by phone or through the Britain's Got Talent App.
