Bookies' favourite Liam Tanne has crashed out of The Voice

Bookies' favourite Liam Tamne has crashed out of BBC1 singing contest The Voice - leaving him in tears and causing Jessie J to storm off the show.

Coach Will.i.am opted to put fashion stylist John Pritchard through to the next stage after the two hopefuls went head-to-head in the battle round.

The two had been asked to sing chart-topping hit Easy Lover by team boss Will, but the choice of song led to criticism from the other coaches who all felt Tamne should win.

And after Will opted to keep Pritchard in the show, Jessie erupted and stomped off the programme. She was also upset that none of the other coaches could give the loser a second chance as they used up their lifelines to "steal" contestants who missed out.

Two of the wannabes were given a lifeline to stay in the competition after their coaches had ditched them from their team.

Alex Buchanan lost out to Letitia Grant-Brown but Danny O'Donoghue came to her rescue to "steal" her for his team. And Lemuel Knights - who lost out to Trevor Francis - was nabbed by Will.

Others who made it through to the knockout stage of the BBC1 show were Mitchel Emms, Mike Ward, Moni Tivoni, Sean Rumsey and Joseph Apostol.
