Bowman: Revenge theme is universal

Josh Bowman reckons everyone can relate to his new show Revenge.

The British actor plays playboy Daniel in the US import, a tale of vengeance, double-crossing and betrayal set in the wealthy Hamptons, on America's east coast.

"I think everyone can relate to a story of going after something they want, or hurting someone, or wanting someone to be hurt but not having the balls to do it," said Josh.

The 24-year-old, who appeared on Waterloo Road and Holby City before taking his career Stateside, has his fingers crossed Revenge will find as devoted an audience in the UK as it has in the US.

"I'd love to see that a show I'm part of is going to do well there, but you never know," he added.

The show follows wealthy and seemingly demure Emily Thorne, played by Emily VanCamp, as she becomes the hottest new face in town. But the character is far from the innocent figure she first appears.

Seventeen years earlier, her father was framed and forced to take the fall for a crime he didn't commit. He died in prison, and, under an assumed name, his daughter has returned to the Hamptons with just one goal - payback.

Actress Emily, 26, revealed the elegant costumes her character wears are a far cry from her usual style.

She said: "We get to wear some of the most beautiful clothing. It's hilarious - I am not a big fashion-forward person, so I get to feel like a princess when I go on set. They dress me in all this beautiful clothing and then I get to throw my jeans on to go home, so it's kind of the best of both worlds."

:: Revenge begins on E4 on Monday, May 28
