Britain’s Got Talent golden buzzer act asked to audition by bosses - report

The 15-year-old impressed the judges with her rendition of And I Am Telling You from Dreamgirls.

Britain’s Got Talent golden buzzer act Sarah Ikumu was reportedly scouted out and asked to audition by show bosses.

The 15-year-old wowed judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon with her rendition of And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going from Dreamgirls.

Simon pressed his golden buzzer during her audition, meaning Sarah is straight through to the live semi-finals.

However, it has been claimed by The Sun newspaper that the schoolgirl was asked by show bosses to enter the TV talent show months before auditions began.

A source told the publication: "A Britain's Got Talent scout spotted Sarah towards the end of last year, when she was performing at a local event. She was asked to audition on the show.

"She auditioned shortly after, and of course completely blew the producers away. There was no special treatment and she had to audition like every other act from then on."

However, Simon and his fellow judges had no idea Sarah had been found before her stunning audition at the London Palladium.

A Britain's Got Talent spokesperson said the show does encourage acts to come along and audition for the competition, but there is no special treatment. "As the only show of its kind in the country, we want to showcase the best talent around and therefore, we travel the length and breadth of the country to find the best talent and make them aware of the show and auditions," they explained.

"We do then encourage acts to apply but any such acts will be required to audition on the same basis as any other applicant and normal programme rules apply. All acts are judged on their performance during their audition.”

Sarah previously competed in the U.K. singing competition Teen Star in 2015, impressing the judges with her rendition of Aretha Franklin’s hit Think. The teenager went on to win the talent show at her school Hazeley Academy in Milton Keynes last year (16), and has her own page on SoundCloud and an official Facebook page as she forges her singing career.

She has also taken part in Milton Keynes' Young Musician of the Year and an under-18s 'Youngstars' showcase in London.
