Busy Philipps hospitalised with ovarian torsion

The star wants to use her health crisis to encourage fans not to be afraid to seek medical help.

Actress Busy Philipps had to cut short birthday celebrations for her best pal Michelle Williams on Saturday (09Sep17) after she was hospitalised with severe abdominal pains.

Busy met up with her former Dawson's Creek co-star in Boston, Massachusetts to mark her pal's 37th birthday, and shared a photo of the pair heading out for the night wearing matching black leather jackets with the words "Best Friends" emblazoned across the back.

"Happy birthday to my better half," she captioned the sweet snap. "I love you, M. You make everything better."

However, the ladies' night of celebrations ended early for Busy after the mother-of-two had to seek emergency medical help hours later.

She detailed her health crisis in a lengthy post on Instagram on Sunday (10Sep17), when she shared a photo of herself lying in a bed at Massachusetts General Hospital wearing a sweater bearing the phrase, "Hysterical Female", with an intravenous drip in her arm.

"Last night ended super weird...," she began. "I had a crazy excruciating pain in my lower right side and after a long time at Mass Gen, it was determined my ovary had flipped over - it's called torsion."

Busy assured fans she was "OK" as her ovary had "flipped back by itself", but used her experience to urge fans to seek out professional medical advice whenever necessary, as she could have lost her ovary had she not checked herself into hospital.

"My point of posting this was I felt like an idiot for going to the hospital but ultimately, going was the right move! It always is! Even if they say you're fine and send you on your way!," she explained, before adding a message of gratitude to medical staff: "And a huge thank you to the amazing doctors and nurses who took care of me!"
