Call for Game of Thrones visitor centre in Northern Ireland

By Nevin Farrell

A dedicated Game of Thrones visitor centre should be established in Northern Ireland, it has been claimed.

Larne DUP councillor Angela Smyth says such a facility would act as a focal point for tours surrounding the internationally renowned TV series, some of which is filmed in Northern Ireland.

Many of the sites are in and around the Larne area, and Mrs Smyth believes it is time for a centre to be given the green light to cash in on the thousands of tourists who flock here every year to sample the Game of Thrones experience.

She said: "I am thinking of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council to go on the brand name and usually you have somewhere for a centre-point and then do a trail.

"That is my idea and obviously Mid & East Antrim would be included in that trail."

She said scenes for the show have been filmed at Magheramorne quarry near Larne and believes the site could be considered for such a centre.

"I have asked the council if it would be worthwhile getting something located there and I believe we should use the Game of Thrones brand as much as possible to promote our area," she added.
