Caroline Wozniacki 'thankful' Rory McIlroy called off their wedding

Caroline Wozniacki said she's "thankful" her ex Rory McIlroy called off their wedding.

The couple famously split in 2014 days after their wedding invitations were sent - in what was rumoured to be a seven minute phone call - and while Caroline previously said she "devastated" after, she now says she's come out the other end better for it.

"I think I'm just a different person. Obviously it was hard at the time, but it was a great experience to go through and come out the other end of," she told OK! Magazine.

"I wouldn't have wanted it any other way."

The Danish athlete added she's "very thankful" for their break-up, adding she 'wouldn't be where I am now' if not for the experience.

McIlroy has since moved on with PGA employee Erica Stoll, who he is due to wed on New Year's Eve, but Caroline said she is in no rush to find love and is instead focusing all her energy on her career.

"I'm so focused on my training but I don't mind because I love what I do and when the right guy comes along I'll give it a shot. When it feels right I'll make the time for it," she added.

Since their infamous break-up, Wozniacki has become a red carpet regular attending the Met Gala and counting herself a new recruit into Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour's inner circle and landing her second spread in Sports Illustrated.

Meanwhile, the Northern Irish golfer recently hit Dublin for an early 'stag' party where he celebrated his pending nuptials with friends and family.
