Cheryl hits back over Wagner jibe

Cheryl Cole has hit back at Wagner Carrilho after he made unfavourable comments about her council estate roots.

During an interview, Wagner said Cheryl was "just a girl from a council estate who got lucky".

The X Factor judge did not remark on Wagner's medley of Beatles hits Get Back, Hippy Hippy Shake and Hey Jude, but instead took the opportunity to hit back.

She said to the Brazilian: "I think you made some comments this week about me being from a council estate. I am very proud of my roots and I am very lucky."

Wagner, who was wearing a jacket similar to Paul McCartney's on the sleeve of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, tried to defend himself and said: "I didn't know the guy was a journalist.

"He asked me what I think of Cheryl and I said Cheryl is a role model for the young people of this nation because I believe she has lived on a council estate and so many people who live in a council estate don't believe they can achieve a better standard of living.

"You are incredibly talented and beautiful and you have the manners of a princess."

During an interview he told the Daily Mirror: "Cheryl has never spoken to me properly, but that's OK. She's just a girl from a council estate who got lucky when someone gave her a job in showbusiness."

Saturday's show saw the eight remaining contestants take on tracks by The Beatles.

At the start of the show, Fab Four legend Sir Paul wished the singers luck with the show.
