Chris Hemsworth's sleepless nights

Chris Hemsworth has said fatherhood is fantastic, despite being starved of sleep.

The Snow White And The Huntsman star became a first-time dad last week when Spanish actress wife Elsa Pataky gave birth to daughter India, and the 28-year-old has been juggling his new parenting duties with interviews for his new film.

"The last few days has been a bit of press, and then I'm at home with the baby and trying to get some sleep in there, which hasn't been happening," he said.

"But it's fantastic. I'm running on adrenaline at the moment, and it's all wonderful," he added.

Chris, who stars alongside Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart in Rupert Sanderson's modern take on the classic fairytale, joked that his wife and daughter won't be able to gang up on him, despite Elsa previously saying that she would only speak to their child in her mother tongue.

Chris admitted that he understands more than he lets on.

"She's told me that many times, as a motivation for me to learn Spanish. My knowledge of it is very minimal at the moment. But I'm trying," he said.

"I understand more than she thinks. I read the body language, and say, 'You're gossiping, aren't you? You're saying something bad about me, I can tell'."

:: Snow White And The Huntsman opens in cinemas on May 30.
