Chris Martin pays tribute to Leonard Cohen as Coldplay return to London stage
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin paid a moving musical tribute to Leonard Cohen after the poet and songwriter died aged 82.
In an encore on stage at the London Palladium, Martin appeared alone with his guitar to perform Cohen's song Suzanne, dedicating it to "absent friends".
Afterwards he said: "Sending my love to Mr Leonard Cohen for those amazing songs, you changed my life. "
Cohen's death was announced early on Friday.
The Canadian artist passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, his son, Adam, said.
No further details have been given of his death, which came just weeks after he said he was "ready to die" in an interview.
He released his 14th and final studio album, You Want It Darker, in October. A memorial is due to take place in Los Angeles at a later date.
