Cole's hairdo keeps fans guessing

Cheryl Cole has reportedly gone for a new hairstyle just in time for her birthday.

The singer, who was axed from the US X Factor only three weeks after it was first announced she had landed a judging role, sparked a minor Twitter frenzy after she was apparently spotted at the US Embassy in London sporting shorter, lighter locks.

The Girls Aloud star's waxwork has also undergone a makeover ahead of her turning 28 on Thursday.

Staff at Madame Tussauds London have swapped her figure's red evening dress for an orange skirt and purple top.

Her diamond tiara has also been replaced by a sparkling Happy Birthday version which will stay in place over her birthday.

Earlier this month Cheryl thanked fans for their support after the "weirdest past few weeks" which saw her lose her job on the US TV show.

On her website she said she was using her enforced break to "chill with loved ones".

She added: "It feels long overdue and sooooo good, even my feet are happy to not have to wear a pair of high heels."
