Coronation Street star Mikey North feared for wife during difficult labour

Coronation actor Mikey North has become a father for the first time.

Coronation Street star Mikey North feared for his wife Rachael during her tough labour of their son Archie.

The couple welcomed their first tot into the world in November last year (16), but kept their new arrival secret until sharing the news in this week’s OK! Magazine.

Speaking about becoming a father Mikey, 30, who plays Gary Windass on the street, said: "I'm loving it (being a father), it's the best thing ever. I'm really enjoying it. It was the next step for us."

Rachael had a trouble-free pregnancy but a difficult labour, as the actor explained, "The labour lasted around 20 hours. But it was just constant. There was no respite. I thought there would be some chance to rest. It was just full on for nearly a day. But I just felt so proud of Rachael."

Rachael, who tied the knot with Mikey last year, lost one-and-a-half litres of blood after a planned episiotomy went wrong and a cut went through a vein.

However she pulled through to give birth to baby Archie.

"It felt crazy," she revealed. "It seemed really surreal. I just couldn't believe that he had grown inside me. Even now it seems mind boggling. I did shed a tear."

Speaking about his pride in his wife for coming through her ordeal, Mikey added, "When you see your wife going through all of that, I just felt so proud. It's the most proud I have been of anything."

The gory birth had left him fearing for his wife, as Mikey explained, "Once I could see Archie was fine I was more worried about Rach. The amount of blood was unbelievable."

Mikey has starred as kindhearted rogue Gary in the beloved British soap since 2008.
