Cowell dismisses health concerns
Simon Cowell has dismissed concerns raised by his mother that he is putting his health in jeopardy with a gruelling workload, saying: "You know what mums are like."
The music mogul's mother Julie, 84, had reportedly pleaded with her son, who is taking The X Factor to the US, to slow down or risk suffering a fatal heart attack like his father Eric.
But Simon, 51, told US Fox News show Fox And Friends: "The headline was a little bit over-dramatic.
"I think she was concerned. You know what mums are like - 'My boy is working too hard' - and I think she mentioned it to someone and then it got picked up to be a bigger story."
He joked: "I genuinely am absolutely fine and I have got at least weeks left."
Simon is launching a new gameshow, working on the production of America's Got Talent and is set to appear in the live stages of Britain's Got Talent. He is reported to have pulled out of the British X Factor, which is due to run at the same time as the US version.
The Daily Mail said the star had told ITV chiefs, who have pulled out all the stops to keep him, that he will not be a judge on The X Factor in the UK this year because the workload would be too much.
ITV dismissed the report as speculation, saying "plans for this year's show will be announced in due course".
Dannii Minogue has flown back to Britain from Australia for talks with X Factor producers while Louis Walsh is also believed to be back on the judging panel.
Cheryl Cole is concentrating her efforts on becoming a judge on the US version of the show, but her role is yet to be confirmed.
