Craig Revel Horwood to replace Miranda Hart in Annie stage musical
Craig Revel Horwood will be taking Saturdays off from Annie so he can do Strictly Come Dancing.
Craig Revel Horwood is set to replace Miranda Hart as Miss Hannigan in the West End revival of musical Annie.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge will step into Miranda's shoes as the child-hating orphanage manager on 18 September, the month Strictly usually kicks off.
Craig will be juggling his 10-week run at London's Piccadilly Theatre with the 2017 season of the reality show and will be taking Saturday nights off from the musical so he can fulfil both commitments.
"I am so pleased to be returning to the West End, especially to a role I had such a brilliant time performing on tour," he said in a statement. "Miss Hannigan is evil, sassy and fab-u-lous," he said, using his famous Strictly catchphrase.
"It will be a real challenge for me not to take her man-hungry, wicked ways to the Strictly judging panel each Saturday night - though I am sure my fellow judges will keep me in check. I can't wait to get started."
The 52-year-old is no stranger to the role as he starred in Nikolai Foster's production for six months when it toured the U.K. in 2015.
Explaining to Britain's Daily Mail why he wanted to reprise the part, he said, "She's such a wonderful character! She's drunk, and hungover. She's nasty, self-centred and egotistical as well... which I sort of love."
The choreographer and dancer has plenty of stage experience, with previous West End roles in Cats, Miss Saigon and Crazy For You.
He will appear in Annie until 20 November so he has a short break before he stars as the wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton from 15 December.
"So I'm going to be a woman for a long time," he joked to the newspaper.
